If you follow StokxBerlin on Instagram you might have wondered why I was acting out .
A new EU regulation , PPWR has been introduced.
Its goal is to make European producers responsible for the disposal and recycling of the they use to send products to their customers.
I my case this would be a box , some paper and some tape.
The legislation looks like this.
EVERY business will have to register and appoint a representative in each EU country it plans to send packages too. This costs between 300 and 1000 euros per country. This should happen before a package is sent.
In addition they will need to supply a list of parcels they have sent to different countries for the the past 3 years.
This expensive bureaucratic nightmare has left me feeling stunned and absolutely betrayed by those who clearly have no idea about the creative industries.
Amazon, Ikea and the Stokx shop will have to pay the same registration fees.
It is jaw-droppingly irresponsible towards what should be a single market.
I have explained this to several of my customers who have looked at me with disbelief.

Don´t get me wrong, I care about the environment and human rights and plastic waste.
To cut a long story short..
I am not going to comply with the PPWR legislation
Such terrible design shouldn´t even be entertained!
Instead, 2 euros from the sale of each printed octopus will be donated to the
Ocean clean-up Project.
This will make a difference because plastic rubbish will be removed from the sea by this conscientious non-profit organisation.
