The Oblong #StokxOblong
This design is a starting point.
It is deliberately minimalist*, consisting of 6 main pattern pieces.
*but it doesn´t have to stay that way
Here is a shape designed to fit and suit most... and below are some tips to adjust the style so that it looks and feels like it was made for you.
On a first glance it is Boxy… but is it?
A vertical dart at the front shapes the upper part of the chest; just enough to stop it looking like a sack.
A classic back shoulder dart does the same for the back.
There is a Reach sleeve, so you can move your arms.
There are slits from the waist down so it can be worn with tapered trousers,
or over a rococo ball gown.
The long tie belt can cinch in the waist, be worn loosely to the back or be replaced with a favourite belt.
Post Pocket.
Despite a silent vow of simplicty, I was unable to let a potential jacket go out without an option of pockets.
The surface of Oblong would easy to adorn with a multitude of classic pocket options, however I wanted to keep the surface "clean"
The first Add-on for the Oblong is the Post Pocket.
This one piece pocket is slipped into the folded back edge of the front split.
The weight of the pocket ( because it IS useable) can be tethered to the front facing or secured with discrete or decorative top stitching.
Neither of these methods will effect tying the belt.
