The Zile Shirt : A Multi-talent like my friend.

The Zile Shirt : A Multi-talent like my friend.

StokxZileShirt

This is a photo of my good friend Zile ( pronounced JZ*illy), wearing one of the first prototypes with the Stokx Play pants.

This one  is a mixture of cotton and linen.

*JZ is like the jzz sound in casual.

The Zile shirt ticks the boxes.

It is versatile and robust as a shape and It fits MOST blokes.

The garment measurement for the chest is 163cm in the Size 9.

Style the Zile as a shirt or as a chore Jacket. The size packets include 6 sizes so it is possible to size up for a jacket.

The cloth you choose, the pockets( optional of course ) and the different sleeves enable quite a few possibilities. Feel free to add your own custom details.

The little heart**  #sewdoitforheart25 is stitched on the inside of a short sleeved version. It isn´t included in this pattern, but you can add one anyway if you want to send a message.

As you scroll down this post you will see it has been made in everything from a thin cotton/ linen to technical fabric.

Materials

It is designed for woven materials:
light summer weights like lawn, poplin, gingham.
Mid-weights like chambray, linen, cotton flannelette, baby-cord;
and heavier qualities like denim, cord, technical fabrics, tweed and jumbo cord.

The form and construction is very similar to the women´s #StokxOblong, however this one has a longer back, shirt tails and a classic menswear shape.

I would call it the Oblong´s step sibling because, although the patterns are related, the pattern pieces are NOT interchangeable with the Oblong.

The style also works as a short sleeved shirt.

The blue one is a thin cotton/linen mix and the light brown one is in a classic shirting weight.

Here is one with a simple roll up long sleeve.

This dark brown one is a mid-weight cotton with ribbed woven structure.

The yellow on the inside of the shirt was revealed when I folded the shirt lengthwise and soaked part of it in 3cm deep colour removal stuff (Farb Entfärber auf Deutsch). Because this piece ended up more interesting on the inside I called it the "Introvert Jacket"

This version is a robust 100% cotton corduroy.

Below: This shows how the straight bands of lining reinforce the stress points of the pockets.

To be continued:

Below: the same shirt with a hood rather than a collar.

WORK IN PROGRESS

This option is the next thing on our very long list.

This one also shows the second pocket option in the original pattern.

As previously mentioned, this shape throw up many options.

The hood posed 2 extra questions to consider:

How will the hood stay on if it is windy?

This version has a casing sewn along the inside edge of the hood facing.

The band inside can be drawn tight and tied under the chin. There are other solutions that we are also considering.

Note also the extra button hole and that it has been placed diagonally.

If it is rain resistant how can the rain be kept out of the pockets?

The pocket on this version is a double pocket . It is easier to make than usual .

Stay tuned ...

Thank you to my friends and neighbours for modelling. You are great !!
