An Up date on the #100plusheartsproject

An Up date on the #100plusheartsproject

If you are new here.. here is the previous post.

 November 2nd 2025

 Ronda @anakiequilter has  11 patches

5 patches are on the way from Berlin.

4 are in transit.

1 is in Berlin and I will take it with me when I go to Oz in December.**

There are 20 and at least 80 more are needed for the #100plusheartproject to live up to its ambitious title.

How to get 80 + more patches?

I am starting to suspect that social media is also ageist and misogynistic... and yes, perhaps I am too cheap to pay for advertising.

Getting the message out there hasn´t been easy until now. Some have received the message repeatedly, whilst others have remained unaware of Ronda´s project and the message about heart health awareness she aims to spread.

Stokx Patterns hasn´t seemed to have had as much engagement with the Americas as in the past, so I reached out to a few colleagues and customers.

Indeed several of them let me know they were hearing of the project for the first time!

I met Diane from Stylefalcon when we were on a #SewOver50 live in March, just before International Womens Day.

She has kindly offered to spread the word and has also offered to be a mailing Hub, to save on international postage.

And a big Thanks to Diane from @StyleFalcon *

Just as Diane offered to help, so did @jocastingoff .*

She is also from the States and had just sent her patch to Ronda.

She has also offered to collect and forward patches.

In the UK @new_by_helen * has also kindly offered to be a hub; to collect patches and then forward them to Australia.

I will be heading to OZ December 1st and will deliver patches to Ronda personally.

What I think.

I find this project inspiring!  The idea of the makers community coming together in a massive international collaboration absolutely floats my boat!

It is exponentially more than the sum of its parts/ patches.

Heart disease really is the biggest life threatening risk for women over 50.. I googled it.

The symptoms are different to those experienced by men and there is still not enough research afforded to womens heart health.

If one woman is saved from a preventable heart condition it is worth it.

When I offered to help Ronda, I was unaware of how moving the personal stories could be. Making a patch and writing about a woman´s experience is a beautiful tribute.

As makers we know about the thought and consideration that goes into the things we create.... So imagine that ON SPEED.

Democratising the Art world is also important.

The potential of this project is undeniable.

Thank you Ronda and to all who have made and will make a patch.

 Let´s do this

The patches can be pieced, appliqued, painted, hand or machine embroidered, knitted... some or all of the above.

Ronda´s vision is about inclusion . Every patch is/will be unique.

 *DM on instagram and <3

** you can also send them to me before the end of November.

Wondering what to do ?

Here is something I prepared earlier...

When I was on holiday, I started to see hearts everywhere.

Here is a design for a heart patch inspired by a tiled floor. Feel free to use it as a guide if starting from scratch feels overwhelming.

As someone who have only recently made a patch, the seam allowances here are 1 cm.

Here is the pattern. Follow the arrows.

Then join the 2 long straight bits on the sides.

add a name/initial and a story.

(even if it is about finding out about heart health for the first time)

 Have fun

and Greetings
